What is Dry Type Transformer?

The Dry type transformer is a machine which consists of windings which are attached to a core, and are kept in a tank which is sealed shut and then pressurized with air.Such equipments never use any insulating medium where the winding and cores can be plunged.

Type of Dry Type Transformer

Even though transformers are of various kinds, the dry type machine comes in two variants-

Cast Resin Dry Type Transformer ( CRT)

These devices are utilized in areas which have high degree of wetness. This is mostly because both the primary and secondary windings are enclosed in an epoxy resin. This in turn helps to a great deal since it prevents the body from getting affected or harmed with moisture. The reason why the entire the cast resin is so important is that it helps the machine in running in a glitch-free manner without causing any disruptions. This is the main reason why the transformer is non hygroscopic. Such equipments are accessible with different ratings varying from 25 KVA to 12,500 KVA. with insulation class of F (90°C Temp. Rise).
