The structure of this machine consists of a singe winding which is attached in a zigzag manner. Even though the zero sequence impedance is rather reduced in such devices, they can be enhanced, but only if the intention of this work is to restrict the current flowing in a transformer(especially in the case of faults/glitches in the earth system).
Is a situation of undisturbed working with proportionate electrical force, the voltage passes directly through the machine, in the form of miniature sized magnetizing currents. These unbalanced forces might be the reason for certain higher electric potential which the device can surely transport.
During undisturbed system operation with balanced (symmetrical) voltages, the current which goes through the earthing transformer is small & of the same size as the magnetizing current. Unbalanced voltages will cause some higher currents flowing through the earthing transformer, which it must be capable to carry.
A secondary link to the above mentioned zigzag is a star/delta connection. In this, the delta is unified with the windings, which would make up the magnetic fields which have a zero sequence. This would help them in confining to the outflow field present between both windings, thus making the resistivity of the machine comparatively smaller. If one feels that the resistance should be increased from zero, they can accomplish this goal by opening and inserting a reactor into the delta connection.
Earthing wires can be harnessed with an alternate winding which would provide a uninterrupted axillary station supply. Being oil immersed in nature, these devices can be installed outdoors, wherein the reactor is attached between the neutral line of the machine and the earth. Both the furnace and the earthing equipment can be merged onto the same tank.
The rated current and it’s continuance is determined with the data provided for the arc-suppression reactor. This can only take place once the earthing device is combined with the arc-suppression furnace.
In certain situations, if the earthing machine is utilized for a straightforward earthing process, or via a current confining reactor, then do note, that the neutral current which passes through the equipment would be high. But, the only negative point is that the duration of this would last only for a few seconds. In a majority of the cases, the loading procedure of such huge devices takes up a lot of time. The credit goes to non other than the short – duration currents which happen at random, that cause the important heating activity. There are two points which are to be taken into consideration when we talk about acceptable temperatures. The currents of around 10 seconds time period should never allow the softening of the winding conductor element and should maintain them at a temperature of around 250o C for copper and 200 o C for aluminium.
For the voltage which have a span of more hours, one should completely avoid the formation of excessive gas from the oil. For items which are in direct interaction, the temperature should be restricted to 140 o C.
The machines come with a fault protection relay. These are not quite effective everytime in the cases of low electric flow. In order to forbid any sort of harm to the equipments, we always recommend equipping the setup with oil thermometer with alarm/trip contacts. On the other hand, the percentage of flux on the upper limit can be announced and protection for the same can be provided easily.
